Frequently asked questions.
What is 50501 Veterans?
50501 Veterans is a veteran-led, nonpartisan organization of current and former military service members, federal employees, and their families. We organize to defend veteran care, protect constitutional democracy, and keep the promise made to everyone who served.
Is 50501 Veterans nonpartisan?
Yes. We are nonpartisan and stand for nonviolence, thoughtful discussion, and action that uplifts veterans and strengthens community. Our loyalty is to the Constitution and the oath we swore — not to any party or politician.
What are the three pillars?
Our work is organized into three pillars, one for each part of our promise:
- Veterans' Care, Rights, and Dignity (Defend Veterans) — the material and moral backbone of 50501 Veterans. At our core, we exist to turn symbolic support for veterans into real outcomes.
- Democracy, Peace, and Constitutional Duty (Defend Democracy) — we mobilize veterans and supporters to protect democratic institutions, peaceful transfers of power, voting access, responsible diplomacy, and limits on endless war.
- No Veteran Left Behind (Keep the Promise) — we mobilize veterans and allies to defend deported veterans, separated families, veterans denied benefits, veterans trapped in crisis systems, and veterans excluded from public concern.
What is The Smoke Pit and when does it air?
The Smoke Pit is our flagship live show and podcast, produced in conjunction with Crayon Eater Media. Through unscripted veteran conversations, we explore the major issues centered on our pillars, make fun of the political news, and interview political candidates to find out how they will use their position to help secure veterans benefits. The show streams Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 to 10pm ET on Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook, and most episodes are available as a podcast, which you can listen to right here on 50501vets.com or on any of your preferred podcasting platforms.
